Stars Rock Dark Vampy Lips for spring at the Met Ball

The annual Met Ball, held on Monday, May 7 (officially the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala) is one of the most glamorous nights of the year. The hottest celebrities were in attendance in their best gear at New York’s Metropolitan Museum to celebrate the opening of the latest Costume Institute exhibition. Red carpet at its finest, this year’s amazing gowns were scattered with gold, shimmer and block color. For makeup, stars wowed us with the unusual new trend – dark, wine-stained lips. It seems like an odd spring/summer trend, but burgundy, vampy lips are one of the hottest makeup trends right now. With a lusterless finish, this dark lipstick – which was spotted on Camilla Belle, Leighton Meester and Kate Bosworth at the 2012 Met Ball may have you thinking of dark winters and heavy clothing, but think again. Paired with silver and gold gowns, floral dresses and summer pastels, dark, vampy lipsticksare the hottest thing for summer. Get the look with MAC lipsticks in Hang-up or Dark Side.

Our personal favorite was the stunning actress Camilla Belle, who is no stranger to the vampy lipstick look. She looked great with wine stained lips that clashed with her silver low cut gown. The dark color worked back with defined brows, soft eyes and vintage pulled back hair, gave Art Deco inspiration a sexy, modern spin. Camille wore a Ralph Lauren Collection ivory tulle beaded dress with champagne python sandals. She completed her look with Ralph Lauren Vintage Collection jewelry. Her look was bold and sexy, yet elegant and sophisticated at the same time.

Leighton Meester was another trendsetter sporting the vampy look with fresh, dewy skin and a deep berry lip. The 26 year old Gossip Girl star adds some root lift to her locks, plumping for an on-trend quaff which added a touch of oomph to her elegant golden Marchesa gown. She finished off her look with Harry Winston jewels and Tabitha Simmons shoes. Leighton looked great as always and we love how the berry lip looks paired with the golden gown – truly a match made in Heaven.

Kate Bosworth turned up the glam factor a notch at the MET Ball by accessorizing her custom-made Prada mini-dress with a dark, vampy statement lip and a distinct top knot. She stepped out of her comfort zone as her makeup is usually minimal and bare. Her look was youthful and pretty while still being very dramatic at the same time. The 29-year-old beauty wore a Prada bordeaux and navy ostrich feather low cut-back mini dress with three Fred Leighton art deco diamond and platinum bracelets.
