Makeup Remover Types

Ever woke up from a late night out and realized you forgot to remove your makeup before hitting the hay? You’re definitely not alone. While forgetting to remove your makeup before bed is fine every once in a while, making it a habit can wreak havoc on your skin. Thankfully, we’ve put together a list of types of makeup removers so that you can choose which one works best for you – or maybe even mix and match depending on the occasion!

Types of Makeup Removers

Makeup Remover Wipes

This type of makeup remover is great when you are traveling or in a rush – the pads or sheets quickly absorb your face makeup – but aren’t that great for the environment and tends to not remove the dirt and grime on your face as well as a traditional makeup remover.

When to use: While traveling, when you are in a rush, or when you are just feeling flat-out lazy

Pros: Convenient, quick, handy to travel with; some come with aloe that leaves your face feeling clean and refreshed without irritating it

Cons: Not environmentally-friendly; doesn’t remove dirt and grime as well as other types of makeup remover

Makeup Remover Cleansing Liquid

I think everyone had the bottle of purple Neutrogena makeup remover when they were in high school, right?

When to use: As part of your normal night time skincare routine

Pros: Great for removing waterproof products, doesn’t require any rubbing or tugging during makeup removal

Cons: Tends to be messy – make sure you use a cloth or wipe to apply the product to your face!

Cleansing Water

A relatively new product, this 2-in-1 product cleanses skin and clears makeup

When to use: As part of your normal night time skincare routine

Pros: Cleanses skin and removes makeup at the same time, no need to rinse; doesn’t dry out skin

Cons: Although we love a 2-in-1 product, in our opinion, it doesn’t cleanse your face as well as a true cleanser

Makeup Remover Spray

Hey, we may be biased here, but this type of makeup remover is by far the best option. Check out our makeup remover spray on our site here!

When to use: As part of your normal nighttime skincare routine – see our blog here for a full night time skincare routine guide. The spray works by breaking down your makeup so you can easily wipe it away (even if you are wearing waterproof products!) The spray will penetrate into your pores to pull out all of the makeup while at the same time nourishing your skin and protecting it from breakouts.

Pros: Eco-friendly, Vitamin E infused, hypoallergenic, oil and paraben-free, and starts to work on your face instantly, removing the need to rub your face!

Cons: You can’t bring our standard size bottle in your carry-on. May be worth checking a bag to bring your full-size products and that extra pair of shoes!
