Adele’s Grammy Awards Retro Makeup Review

British singer Adele cleaned up at the Grammy Awards taking home 6 statues for her sophomore album, 21, that she said was really just a heartfelt album based off a “rubbish relationship”. She also just landed her first US Vogue cover! But it wasn’t just her powerful voice and talent that had the crowd oohing and ahhing.  Adele’s retro hair and makeup suited her throwback style. She rocked an Armani gown and her makeup was pure classic bombshell. It seems as though everyone who was tweeting about the Grammys thought Adele looked absolutely gorgeous. Lightening her locks, the newly-blonde singer has the most flawless skin we’ve ever seen, and she showed it off by teaming it with a matte, bright red lip, winged liner, killer lashes and a gorgeous retro ’50s hairstyle. For me, Adele’s makeup is very wearable, feminine and physically perfect because it’s soft and there are no hard-drawn brows, or beauty spots. It’s also age and event appropriate and the retro makeup style was made for her pretty heart-shaped face. Are you loving Adele’s retro beauty look, too?

Adele’s Makeup How To:

Here’s how to get Adele’s beauty for your own modern retro look. She combined winged eyeliner, red lips and false eyelashes for a combination that did anything but fail.

Face: Start with a clean face. The It Cosmetics Finishing Powder will give you Adele’s all over matte finish. The light powder evens out your skin tone, minimizes pores and has anti-aging properties.

Eyes: To highlight your eyes, start with long dramatic false lashes. Adele’s fake lashes gradually get longer towards the outside of her eye to intensify the cat eye effect. Next add a very thick layer of liquid liner on your top lids for that sexy look. Wing out the eyeliner going slightly past the end of your eyelid for that winged effect. For step by step process on winged eyeliner check out our blog post on Lauren Conrad’s Romantic Winged Eyeliner which will make getting the look fool proof. Since the lashes are so intensified, use a very light colored grey eyeshadow. Liquid liner – most liquid liners don’t dry quickly enough leaving an imprint on your upper lids or browbones. One I think performs better than the rest is Bobbi Brown Ink Liner.

Lips: Line the lips with a crimson colored liner like Maybelline Color Sensation in Crimson. Finally finish your makeup with that hit of bright red crimson lipstick to pull it all together. Try Revlon’s Colorburst #95 Crimson Lipstick which you can buy in any drug store for $18.99.

This is a makeup that takes time – it’s tricky, but it’s worth the attention to detail because it’s the kind of timeless makeup that makes a face truly memorable.

For Adele’s great retro hair, the volume is key. Alterna’s Strand Expand lotion helps to thicken your hair to give it the needed boost to copy Adele’s locks.
