Two Toned Lipstick on the Spring Runway

Spring is in the air, and a new season means new makeup trends and fun new colors to play around with. Futuristic makeup was all over the Spring 2013 runways from floating eyeliner to two-toned lipstick. At Jason Wu, models strutted the cat walk wearing two toned shades of strong red lipstick that created a pucker punch ombre pout we’re loving.

The ombre effect isn’t just for hairstyles any more. Ombre means having two colors that are monochromatic. So, if you want to go for a red ombre lip, then you should be using an orangey lipstick or a dark brown to blend the two.

Here’s how to get the two-toned lipstick look from the spring fashion shows:

Spray Skindinavia Makeup Spray over the mouth to prep the lips.

Use MAC lip pencil in cherry over the entire mouth. No, you didn’t read that wrong. Use the cherry lip liner to fill in the entire lip. Then, use MAC lip pencil in Vivo around the edges to line the lip.

Next, apply to shades mixed together: MAC lipstick in Lady at Play and Lush Life. Blend these two shades to achieve the two toned red lip effect.

To enhance the effect even more add some MAC Lipmix in Magenta to the center of your lips. You’re not applying it all over the lip just the middle to magnify the two toned effect. Add as much or as little as you want depending on the intensity of the two toned red lip you’d like to create.

Finish with another application of Skindinavia Makeup Finishing Spray to hold your ombre lipstick for up to 16 hours.

Beauty tip: Apply foundation around the lips to define the edges and make your lipstick pop.
