As usual, television’s biggest night did not disappoint for hot Fall fashion and daring makeup looks as celebrities put their best foot forward for the 64th Annual Emmy Awards. Three shows dominated the evening “Homeland” beat out AMC’s “Mad Men” for Outstanding Drama Series, killing its chance to break the record for most best drama awards. Homeland took home a total of four Emmy Awards. Both ABC’s “Modern Family” and HBO’s “Game Change” also took home four awards. But, while January Jones of Mad Men didn’t get to take home an Emmy herself, she appeared on many of Hollywood’s “Best Dressed” lists and certainly makes our Best Makeup list for her striking indigo smoky eye.
Jones wasn’t the only celeb who rocked dark eye makeup at the 64th Annual Emmy Awards – Ginnifer Goodwin, Lena Dunham and Cat Deeley all turned heads with prominent, bold eyelids, keeping the rest of their makeup downplayed.
Still, January Jones was the star whose makeup I was particularly obsessed she is typically not one to experiment with different hair and makeup looks, and this look proves – when you dare to play around with makeup it can really pay off. Once a blonde, January Jones, changed her hair color to the strawberry blonde/red color she was seen rocking to the Emmy’s. She wore her hair slicked back with a deep side part, which drew even more attention to her heavy eye makeup and was a powerful complement to her edgy Zac Posen dress.
Before I get started filling you in on what what Chanel makeup artist, Rachel Goodwin, did to get January Jones’ envy-worthy Emmy look, I thought I’d share some Chanel alternatives since I know most of you won’t be running out the door to spend $36 on an eye shadow. Instead of CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Apparition try out these shades to create a similar effect:
CoverGirl Eye Enhancers – Indigo Compact $5.79
Beauty Without Cruelty Mineral Loose Eyeshadow Lust – Indigo $22.46
MAC Indigo Noir Eyeshadow – $15
Here’s what Chanel makeup artist, Rachel Goodwin, did to get her look:
Base:
Rachel Goodwin applied Chanel’s Hydra Beauty Serum to prepare January’s skin for makeup. Then Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF 15 in 10 Beige was used as her foundation to create a fresh, natural complexion.
Facial makeup:
Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in La Delicate was applied onto her cheekbones for a soft, barely there rosy flush.
Eyes:
Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Apparition was blended delicately to the lash line and the crease. Goodwin then slightly extended it outward towards the hairline in a statement sweep to create the dramatic indigo eye. She outlined January’s eyes with Chanel Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner in Noir Intense on the top and bottom. This is a charcoal eyeliner which is great for blending. Goodwin blended it deep into the lashes with a eye shadow brush to create emphasis.
Lips
Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Determinee perfected January Jones’ lips and the soft berry shade was the perfect color option to complement her indigo smoky eye.
